Expert Talk: Behavioural Economics - Applications in Healthcare
An expert guest lecture on “Behavioural Economics: Applications in Healthcare” was organised by Sarvajanik College of Liberal Arts (SCLA), Sarvajanik University, by Dr. Smruti Bulsari, Researcher at the University of Oxford.
The session explored the connection between economics, psychology and healthcare, helping students understand how human behaviour and decision-making influence health-related choices. The lecture covered concepts such as behavioural biases, Prospect Theory, Present Bias, heuristics, choice architecture, social norms and nudges, with examples from healthcare and public policy.
The session encouraged students to look beyond traditional academic boundaries and understand how different disciplines can come together to address real-world challenges.
From understanding how people make choices to exploring how those choices influence health outcomes, the session offered students a practical perspective on the applications of behavioural economics.
